One big challenge an artist can be facing as a first step to start selling art online is pricing it. Don’t worry, things will be clear for you, at the end of this post, if you keep in mind the following rules and apply it to your pricing strategy.
- Know your competitors’ prices and do some research about their artwork:
As they say: '' keep your friends close and your enemies closer''. Put yourself next to your laptop and do your research about artists who sell the same artwork as you.
Having a global information about prices of artist’s similar work than you will guide you to create a full evaluation about your work regarding the price, the quality and your target customers.
- Give yourself a living wage:
Being an artist is not a cheap work to do. You need to add materials and equipment to your living expenses.
Start by making an hourly wage for you and record how long your work takes from you to finish it. After that, make a reasonable estimation of your costs.
- Know the Market Value:
Pricing your art lower than the value of the brand will affect your business badly. This will make it harder for to increase your art price later when you get more customers.
Give value to your art based on your earned skills and price it wisely. Do your market research and make sure your prices match with the market value.
- Consistency is crucial:
Don’t interfere your feelings when it comes to Money! Give a high price for the piece of work you feel it deserves more without justifying it. Let your artwork talks itself.
6. Seek the right moment to increase your sale price:
As an artist, improved skills should come with increased prices for your brand artwork. You might increase your selling prices yearly or for your best-selling artwork. However, keep consistency in your work.
7. Stay firm with your prices:
Don’t let people negotiate with you about your prices or drive you to decrease it. There is no low price for talent and creativity.
